Bakeshop Equipment
The bakeshop utilizes a wide range of equipment to ensure production goes as needed. Manual tools are usually small hand-held equipment that the baker can use for a wide range of operations. A rubber spatula is great for stirring, mixing, and folding ingredients. The chef knife creates many desirable cuts, while the serrated knife slices through cakes and bread with ease. However, there are several tasks that we would need to employ the use of mechanical tools to make production easier, labor effective, and efficient. For example, kneading dough is a skill all bakers should have. The touch, the feel, the smoothness of the dough is something a baker learns over time. Once they have a feel for its elasticity then a mixer, fitted with a dough hook, can be brought in to make production easier. Another example of mechanical equipment is the food processor. Slicing, dicing and shredding on a large scale is a laborious task but when the food processor is fitted with the correct attachments production time can be cut significantly. In this next section we will look at many of the different types of manual and mechanical tools used regularly in the bakeshop.
